Introduction

MAMAMARATONA 10 … ...October (10th month), .....on the 10th at 10.00 am, estimates the participation of around 10.000 people, the biggest Solidary event on the South of the country…

The Algarve Cancer Association (ACA - AOA) is responsible for the organisation of the MAMAMARATONA in the Algarve and has the support of the Portimão City Council (PCC), The Regional Health Administration (RHA - ARS), the Algarve Athletics Association (AAA), the Sports Institute of Portugal (SIP - IDP), Portimão Turis, as well as Caixa Agrícola do Algarve – which puts their Agencies at our disposal for Registration for the event on the region, and other sponsors.

This event takes place on October 10th at the Parque de Feiras e Exposições de Portimão at 10:00 am. This is the 10th marathon edition, and even though it is not a competitive event, it attracts national and international runners, walkers and participants that join in the campaign against cancer, solely for a single cause: SOLIDARITY in the fight against cancer.

Besides raising awareness of the problem of cancer, the main aim of the event is to raise funds to build a “Casa Flor das Dunas” (The Dune Flower Home), a project that ACA wants to carry out and which involves the construction of a building to support/aid cancer patients. With the plot of land having been donated by the Faro Municipal Council, the building (estimated at 1.000.000,00€) is planned for non-resident patients who require temporary accommodation while on radiation treatment of 4 to 6 weeks.

Free Transportation by railway CP
On the 10th October, the Portuguese Railway Transport (CP) once again will make available free transport to those who make use of Sotavento e Barlavento regional train to and from Portimão, as long as they present their Identity Card, or another type of identification, at the Box Office of the Station. Once there they will be given a return ticket after being checked out on the list previously given by the AOA to the Box Office clerk.
